I am working on a vest and I have finished all of it but the edging.
Upon trying on this V-neck vest, I realized that the whole thing fits very well…except at the shoulders. :wall: It is overshooting my shoulders even before the edging.
I really have no intentions of starting again with a new pattern, and for the most part, it fits perfectly. What do you think would be the best way to finish off?? My thoughts were to fold under and stitch the excess shoulder/arm and to pick up my stitches from the new edge. Someone else suggested knitting the rib, and sewing it on to the new edge after the fact…
My inclination would be to fold the edge under and pick up the stitches along the fold. If you think that would be too bulky, then you could sew a couple of seams with the sewing machine, as you would a steek, and then cut off the extra. I say a couple of seams just for security. You’d cut on the outside of the seams and pick up stitches on the inside–the side on the body of the vest.
Thanks…In the end, I just huffed and puffed and took it back to the armhole shaping and reworked my pattern to be correct. I played around with folding and it was almost 2" on either arm I would have had to correct for.
Like every knitting perfectionist, I anguished for hours before making the decision, but in the end, I think…it will look better…sigh
Thank you for your help…I am just really happy I have a ball winder to clean up all those messy yarn balls…winK
When I’ve found that I have a big problem with a pattern, my first thought is to wonder how I can take the easy way out, because at that point I’m usually disgusted with the pattern and myself.
In the long run, though, once I fix something the right way, regardless of how much ripping I have to do, I’m always happier. In fact, I feel downright virtuous and relieved.
Yes…I wouldn’t have been happy with anything less than perfect.
The thing too was it is for a Halloween Party next year (my fiancee are going as Ginny Weasley and Harry Potter), that is also my wedding. I think it wouldn’t have done to have something that was not perfect…no need for an unnecessary Bridezilla moment
