V-neck sweater

Hello to all, I’m knitting myself into a corner over here in Ireland. Just started up knitting, got a pattern for the famous beginner sweater the Aran. So far so good, but have hit a road block when attempting to do the V-neck. Here goes: Cast off 3 sts, K 46 including st. on needle, dec 1 st. turn. Continue on the last set of sts. as follows–blah blah. What has me stumped is the turn part. Any suggestions? I am practicing all sorts of things on a swatch cause I’m terrified that all my work will go down the tubes…so any advice would be much much appreciated! Hamma

normally it meeans actually turn your knitting.
you know when you get to the end of a row you turn it to work back the other way? well you are doing the same motion here, but before you get to the end of the row.

hey thanks for the quick reply. Still having a bit of trouble. once i turn the knitting, do i go back over the stitches just done and knit them? followed by the next row purled. been trying, looks like a big ole mess, i know i am missing something simple,

It may be that the pattern has short rows instead of BOs for the shoulders. Can you type in a few of the rows for the V neck exactly like the pattern reads so we can help with figuring it out?

hey ravelry, thanks for the reply. I think my question may be very silly, basically, am I working the first 46 stitches, while the other 46 stitches stay untouched until i finish the first side of the divide??
Here goes:
SHAPE ARMHOLE AND DIVIDE FOR FRONT
Next row-cast off 3 sts., K46 including st. on needle., dec. 1 st, turn.
Continue on the last set of sts. as follows:-
Work 1 row.
Next row-K.1, sl. 1, K 1, p.s.s.o, K. to end.
Work 1 row.
Dec. 1 st. at armhole edge as before on the next and every following alt. row AT THE SAME TIME dec. 1 st. at front edge on every following 4th row from previous dec. until 11 sts. remain.
ALL SIZES
keeping front edge straight, dec. 1 st. at armhole edge as before on every following alt. row until 9 sts., then on every row until 2 sts. remain.
K. 2tog. Fasten off

With right side facing, sl. centre st. onto a safety pin, rejoin yarn to remaining sts. at neck edge

I’m sue, ravelry is another site and the button takes you there, only you have to be a member…

Anyway yes, leave the other stitches sitting on the needle while you do the shaping for the armhole and V neck on one side. Dec a st at the armhole edge every RS row (every other row), and at the neckline every other RS row (every 4th row)
