thank you so much for honoring me with such a celebratory response! I can’t tell you how blessed I feel. And, how much I needed this. I’ve had a horrible couple of years recently. This is the first truly fantastic thing that has happened. It help me remember that God hadn’t forgotten my name.
Wow Moni - that is just GREAT!! And the yarn is gorgeous!! You are going to have some fun
If you are going to be the demonstrator at the farmers markets, why don’t you work on the garments for them while you are there - that way, they and the customers, can see how they come along each week! And you can do the project with your granddaughter when you need too
I really want to congratulate you on finding ladies that appreciate your knitting! It is a rare thing!
I posted a thread in General Knitting a minute ago, (BEEN THERE, DONE THAT??) which describes the how the conversation usually goes when people admire our knitting! :pout:
Not like your wonderful experience with the ladies you ran into!
They are a real treasure!
I’m very glad you did. I was having the same thoughts. There is no way they could pay me enough to truly compensate me for my time!
Because I am at a point where I really need to “moonlight” in a way that doesn’t hurt my primary business, I still want to do this!
My son came up with the best method of compensation. He said, “you buy the yarn with your 50% discount. Then you charge them the full price, and keep half for your time.”
So, $150 sweater would be $75 for the yarn and $75 for me. Is $75 enough for an entire week’s worth of work. Oh, absolutely NO WAY! But it’s $75 more dollars than I had yesterday!
Until I can sell enough tea to make ends meet, I have to do something that doesn’t interfere with that. I’ve got nothing but time, so this works for me.
After considering what Dolyce (artlady) and others here had to say about knitting for financial remuneration, I asked the Alpaca ladies what they were considering to compensate me for my time.
They said, nothing. They just thought that since I love to knit, I’d want to do it for free.
I told them at the beginning that I needed a moonlighting position that wouldn’t conflict with my home business, but that I needed desperately to bring in more income. :?? Does that sound like free to you?
So, we had a serious miscommunication and now the deal’s off. (But I still get my 50% for life discount. That’s nice.)
So sorry to hear this and yet so glad that this was settled before you put your time and effort into it. It does pay to clarify the details! Sometimes what we hear is unfortunately not always what was said…
I have found that non-knitters have a serious misconception about the time/money it takes to knit something. I learned that the hard way with a baby set I was asked to knit. After about 40 hours of knitting the woman decided she didn’t want it anymore and wanted a full refund. I will never knit something on commission ever again.
At least you hadn’t put in your time on it yet.:hair:
That’s too bad! I’m glad you got everything straightened out before you put too much time and effort into it. The yarn is lovely and I am sure the discount will be well used!
It is good that you got things worked out before you were to far in.
I also wanted to add that Moni’s teas are GREAT!! I recieved some in a swap and will be ordering more soon. ( I got one that was a green tea with pinapple in it – AMAZING!) Everyone should order from her!
