Unknown cable decreases

Hi everyone! Happy holidays to all! I need help with cable decreases
I am working on a Sweater Babe beanie (#337 Maren Cable Beanie). I am down to the crown and doing the decreases. All was going well until I had to decrease within the cable sts. I worked row 42 using the 2tog RC method below and it gave me the correct count. Moved on and I am through row 48 and 49 and down to 40 sts. I am ready to start at row 50. I am stuck on the 3/3 RC Dec cable decrease.

2tog RC: I found something knitting help put out to reduce a 4 cable st to 3, but this one wanted it reduced to 2. So I crossed the sts then did 2 decreases. It gave me my correct st count, (total 40 sts) so I hope I did that correctly.

3/3 RC Dec: This one I have no clue…🫤. Nope… Can’t think of anything…

I even checked Google and nothing there… Any ideas?

I love it when cable hats take care about the decrease pattern.
You have a 6 stitch cable (3/3 cable). How many sts do you need to decrease across just these 6sts? Are all the decreases in the cables?

At this point, all the decreases seem to be in the cables… It’s an overall 10 st decrease. There are 5 groups and there are currently 8 sts per group, for a total of 40 sts… it has to go down to 30, so 6 sts per group.

If there aren’t any specific directions and the decreases need to be within the cables then you might make them on the 4 inner cable sts. So transfer 3 to a cable needle, k1, ssk, then k2tog, k1 off the cable needle. Any variation on this would be fine too.

It worked!!! I didn’t just as you said. It was a little wonky to work, but I got it done!!! You are the best!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :hugs:

OMG!!! I did it! I dropped some sts in the first set and had to bring them back on, which worked. Once the first one was sdone the other 4 were straightforward, thanks to Salmonmac’s directions, which worked perfectly. I am going to add them to my list of notes to keep!

The rest of the decreases look pretty simple, so I’m good to finish this! I am going to knit a liner on the inside to make it warmer, but that I will do in plain stockinette st, then one more Christmas gift done!!!

Thanks for all your help, Salmonmac!!! Once again you have come to my rescue!!! :hugs:

Delighted that that worked! It’s a lovely hat and just in time for the cold weather.

All done! I’ve saved your suggested instructions for the next time… Looks nice and neat! Thanks again. Merry Christmas and happy and prosperous new year!!!

Be well and happy knitting everyone! :hugs:
