Undoing purl stitch?

I accidentally purled half way through a row that was supposed to be all knit stitch (wasn’t paying attention… ugh)

is there a way to un-purl? I’ve heard about un-knitting, but i don’t know how to do it, and i definitely don’t know how to undo a purl stitch to get it back on the left needle.

if someone could explain i would be thrilled!

Stick your left needle into the stitch you just purled and push it off the right needle, pulling the yarn out of it. Repeat.

The stitch you insert the needle into is not the loop on the needle, but the hole in the center of the stitch just under the needle.

Is this row that you did wrong the one still on the right hand needle? or have you done more rows before you noticed?

it is still on the right hand needle. well half of it is anyways. the other half is waiting to be done.

Excellent! Thank you so much.

Good point!

I’m glad you are still on the messed up row, that makes it easier, :-)but it is possible to fix stitches like this that are further down as well. That is one of the beauties of knitting.

Since you are still on the row you just need to do what Sue and I said.

If you’re unsure where to put your needle, purl another stitch and watch carefully where and how the old stitch ends up then reverse the process. Especially on purl stitches, I sometimes want to put the needle in the wrong way.

I put the needle in the wrong way all the time on purl stitches. One thing that helps me, is that when I tink a knit stitch, I put the needle in the previously completed stitch from the front of the work to the back, and on a putl, I do it from the back to the front. This “usually” prevents twisted stitches, but sometimes, I still get them.

I know that jellofiesta has long since fixed her purling mistake, but I thought I’d insert a link to a You Tube video in case others come across this problem. The video is concise in both the explanation and the view of the work. Happy knitting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C2oUFe3G4Q
