Understanding pattern

Hi all,
I’m new to knitting but I’ve decided to take on the challenge of knitting a baby cardigan.
It’s a king cole pattern 5442.
I’m having a hard time figuring out what the pattern is asking me to do

Using 3.25mm needles cast on 32 stitches
1st row (rs): side edge. *K1, P1, rep from * to end.
Last row sets 1x1 rib
Work 8 rows more.

I’m confused if I reading it incorrectly or not but am I do 8 rows more of the 1st row or 8 rows of the 1x1 rib?

Welcome to KH!

Work the first row which is 1x1 rib: k1p1. You’re making the second size so now work 6 rows more repeating row 1. It will give you ribbing that is k1p1 where the knit columns and purl columns line up.
Good for you for working your first baby cardigan.
