Two circular needles for knitting socks

TO KNIT TWO SOCKS AT ONE TIME USING THE TWO CIRCULAR NEEDLE METHOD AMY DEMONSTRATES WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST AS THE BEST LENGTH NEEDLES TO USE?

I’VE BEEN WORKING WITH THE 1 CIRC NEEDLE MAGIC LOOP (ONLY ONE SOCK THOUGH) AND ALSO THE DPN (AGAIN, ONLY ONE SOCK) AND JUST WANT TO TRY THINGS OUT AND SEE WHAT WORKS THE BEST FOR ME. I THINK DOING TWO AT ONCE MIGHT BE A GOOD THING?!?

THANKS

Oops sorry! I didn’t mean to shout - I’m sorry I had caps lock on.

HEY JAYCEE!!! I CAN HEAR YOU ALL THE WAY HERE IN CINCINNATI!!! :roflhard: :roflhard:

For the two socks on two circs, I would use the shortest possible you are comfortable with (16-24???) sine the four ends flopping around can get unwieldy. I like the one circ for two socks better than two circs if I’m not going to use DPN’s.

Thanks - That’s the kind of experience I was looking for. T

The thing I’m seeing with the 1 circ method is that the bottom stitches are pulling - I’m going to try steaming the addis and see if that relaxes the cable a little more. The cable should be plenty long as it is 40".

What do you mean by the bottom stitches? I have a pair on one circ right now…also 40". I’m kind of wish I had the longer one…I think that might make it easier for me with less pulling.

Let’s see - when I say the bottom stitches I mean the stitches that are seperated by the loop you pull through when you first start. - they would be the stitches farthest from the point of the needle and closet to the loop when you begin knitting each side.

 Do you mean like in this picture? I have that problem too…that is why I thought the longer one might help…put the loop out further from the stitches so they don’t pull as much.

Yes - that’s just what happens. So that’s why I thought I might try using two circular needles instead of the magic loop with one long circular needle.

It’s been a while since I did the two circs, but it seemed like I had the same issue. Try it though and see what you think!

I just finished knitting two socks at once on two circs. At 6 stitches to the inch, I didn’t have a laddering problem (however, I found 16" to be far too short for two socks at once).

I cast on for another pair at 9 stitches to the inch and had unacceptable laddering. The tighter gauge just wouldn’t work with any gap at all. I’m on 5 DPNs now with no trouble.
