TURN and BIND OFF

After casting on 19 stitches, I have already K1, P1 across 5 rows.

Row 6: it says to K1 (P1 K1)for a total of 5 stitches. TURN and bind off the next 9 stitches, then K1 (P1 K1) twice: 5 stitches on either side.

What does it mean to TURN and bind off? My working yarn is on the left needle so how to I bind off the next 9 stitches?

What is it that you’re making? Can you give us a name for the pattern or a pattern link?
From the end description, “5 stitches on either side.” it sounds like there is no turn. Work 5 sts, bind off 9 and the final (p1, k1) twice.

You’re binding off the nine stitches in the center of the thingy, so I think the last “turn” might be a mistake.

It is called a Neck Warmer made from 1 skein Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky Weight Yarn on 10.5 needles.
Cast on 19. Rows 1-5: K1, (P1,K1) across
Row 6: K1, (P1, K1) twice (total of 5 stitches) TURN, bind off the next 9 stitches, then K1, (P1, K1) twice: 5 stitches on either side.
Row 7: K1, (P1, K1) twice. TURN, add on 9 stitches, TURN, K1 (P1, K1) twice: 19 stitches.
Repeat row 1 for seed stitch until finished with skein. bind off.

I think your pattern has some mistakes in it. Is this part to make an opening for the other end to fit through? Where did you get the pattern?

Yes, The turn in row 6 should be deleted. Just continue with the next sts. In row 7, you’ll turn so that the needle with the working yarn is in you left hand, cable or knit cast on the 9sts, turn again, that is, take the needle with the working yarn back into your right hand and contiue with the row.
There are directions for the cable or knit cast on under the Free Videos tab at the top of the page, Cast Ons.
