I’m using some older Sugar 'n Cream sport weight for a back scrubber/washcloth/soap set as we speak! I’ve also made a baby blanket and sweater from it. No complaints here.
Thanks for the tip! :yay:
I had made a couple dishcloths with this yarn and the colors bled together! I will use your suggestion next time!
Lisa
I know!
I make little hot plate holders out of them and coasters :happydance:
AND … they now have a SELF STRIPING !!! I am making a beach bag from pinks right now!
Michael’s had giant balls of Sugar n Cream for $5 not too long ago. I have never used it but how could I resist. I am happy to learn that it will be so useful.
i also love the lily sugar and cream. I made the all occasion tote on the Lionbrand website for a friend’s daughter last year and it’s holding up beautifully. my ONLY complaint with it was that even though it claimed to be the same dye lot when i purchased it… one ball was slightly lighter so i used it at the top to make a lighter colored stripe, she loves it
Another vote here for sugar 'n cream, also peaches 'n cream! It’s a lot of fun to try out different stitch patterns for the washcloths. I use my addi turbos for these…normally I don’t care for these needles as I find them a tad too slippery, but for the cotton they’re great. I just got some peaches ’ cream yarn in on cones. Great price. The only thing I’d recommend is that you watch your colors. What I mean by that is that on the website the colors are clear, but in real life those colorways without white in them tend to be muddy colored. If that’s what you want it’s great. My fav color right now is rosewood with it’s soft variegated pinks, white and tans!
I’ve been knitting that pattern (thanks) today while putting up crown moulding. I knit a little, have to help out measuring and holding the moulding then I go back to knitting. :teehee: I guess I’m multi-tasking.
Elowein… WHAT animals did you make for the kidddies? and it held up really well… I am gonna be an Ainee again and I would love to make some Cute soft, durable baby toys…
I forgot who posted but thanks for the Vinegar soak… to make it set… I had heard that it bled and now I know how to stop it before it starts…
Can’t wait to find the self Striping Snc … how cool is that???
thanks guys … as always you are a Treasure TRove of informations

if I already finished something - red and white - is it too late to put it in vinegar now?
Syndactlus I would think you would be able to soak it in the vinigar combination still. Then again, i’ve never done it before so what do I know?
Ok, I just bought my first ball of SnC this weekend as I want to attempt to make the washcloths for my brother. I have never knitted these up before and I hope to do some for myself eventually so I can test out their durability. I would also love to have something small enough to take with me everywhere in case I have to wait anywhere.
KT, these hold up REALLY WELL. I have hot pads, pot holders, and dishcloths (mostly crocheted) that i’ve had for nearly 8 years now that are still going strong… a little faded perhaps, the dishcloths are starting to show a bit of wear, but they’re still working fine.
EIGHT years… later??:passedout:
WOW~!
that’s why i prefer them to store bought ones. I also have yet to have my hands get hot when using the pot holders… i’ve also made my MIL a set of both pot holders and hot pads (what i do on the pot holders is just make a square the same size and then sc around the edges to join and add a little loop to hang them)
Talk about a great gift…I found this pattern after looking at the Lily website. http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=136. If the link doesn’t work, it’s a pattern for bath mits. This would be super cute for birthdays or christmas or whatever with some really nice soaps. In fact, I may have just figured out what to give my sister for Christmas.
I like Sugar n Cream too. Today since the SnC at Hobby Lobby was only $1.11 I bought some black yarn and I’m going to make a ballband dishcloth with the black and some SnC in the Playtime color. It will be pretty.
Cool! Right now I’m making a small tea cozy for my teapot with Sugar 'n Cream in Cherry swirl, and it only takes one ball! So I spent about $1.50 for this great tea cozy!!! Really exciting stuff. And I made my first dishcloth two days ago with it, I just casted on 55 and did one of those mitered squares. It came out really nice, and I’m just really excited about this stuff. Obviously S’nC won’t work for a lot of stuff, but it’s perfect for its purpose - it has a great little niche
I am SO glad I’m not the only person who likes this yarn! I love to use it for baby blankets and such - soft, cheap, and 100% machine washable and dryable. No way to go wrong.
I have no problem admitting that I love sugar n cream yarn and have for years! I leanred to knit making all kinds of dishclothes with many different patterns and stitiches. I have also crocheted (yes I crochet too) some cute and sturdy totes with it too. It’s great stuff!
I adore expensive yarn just as much as the next knitter, but I think places like Hobby Lobby, Michaels and even Walmart has some worthwhile and fun yarn. I am not a yarn snob I guess. LOL.
Oh yeah, I also love Caron yarn too! It’s great for scarves and gloves. So soft!
I made one of those!! It was my first non-scarf project. It’s really great and hangs in my shower. I love that it can switch off between hands (so both pits can get scrubbed!).
