Trouble with double brioche decrease

Currently knitting the Brooklyn tweed dock light sweater and soooo close to finishing but I’m having trouble with the double decrease in brioche. Right now I’m working the sleeves, but I also ran into this problem with the top of the body while working the decreases.

When I start the double decrease (see photos for reference - BR-FD2-L), I found it’s necessary to start on a purl so that the necessary SSP and YOF line up with the established brioche pattern. However, when following the pattern up until that point, I start off with a knit stitch and it doesn’t line up with the pattern. Is there a way to flip the BR-FD2-L so that I can start on a knit stitch? Or do I just delay the decrease one stitch (right now as shown in pattern it says to WCS, then begin double decrease immediately) or will that look wonky?

As I mentioned, I ran into this same issue on the body where one side decreases lined up (started with a purl), but when I got the other side decreases, they didn’t line up and started with a knit stitch. I just put it aside and decided to work on the sleeves and told myself I’d figure it out later, but lo and behold I’ve found myself with the same issue on the sleeves. I just want the decreases to be where they are supposed to, but if I delay it a stitch, then it either shifts the decrease in one or, in the case of the body, the decreases aren’t aligned on either side if that makes sense. Any help is very much appreciated!!

Are you working the WCS (wrapped chain selvedge) at the beginning of these rows and does that help with the placement of the initial purl stitch? That would make seaming easier.
Does the BR-FD2-R also start with a purl stitch?
I notice that one of the Ravelry projects refers to a photo tutorial from Brooklyn Tweed for the decreases and I wonder if that might help with the location of the decreases. There’s also a video for a different double decrease in brioche which might work, depending on how far you’ve gotten with the decreases.
