Hello, I am new to knitting. My daughter wanted to learn, so I taught myslef to teach her. I just knitted a scarf with a triangle pattern, purling and knitting. It is folding right in the middle. I don’t know if I used too small of needles and/or did it too tight. Is there a way to fix it? It is my biggest project so far and would hate to think it can’t be fixed, but I guess you learn with each project. Please help!
It sounds like you are doing stocking stitch? Knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
If so, that worked by itself will always curl/fold. You are doing nothing wrong. It’s the nature of the stitch.
See this thread.
It needs to be combined with something else.
Usually a border, e.g. approx 5 sts or more of garter st, seed st, ribbing.
or Seamed to another section (in Garment), or to itself by folding
(scarf) or adding lining.
If you scan through various types of patterns you might notice not many are done in stocking stitch alone.
they either are in a different stitch pattern, or have a border of some sort.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your help. I’ll remember that when I look through patterns next ime.
the next time, you can check out this blog. it has 296 links to triangle shawl patterns
some are for sale, some are in book and magazines, and the ones in bold are all free.
its a great resourse!
