I’m not happy with my top knots that I do in with the i-cord method using 4 stitches on a #7 dpns.
I noticed some top knots seem wider or flater.
Once I knit the roll brim baby hat on circular needles and decrease down to 4, I start my I-cord. It just looks to skinny. I have tried a larger needle and it just doesn’t look right.
Can I use a different type of stitch and maybe make it flat?
If you can help me I would so appreciate it or tell me where I might see what different ways.
I have noticed on Etsy hat patterns, but I hate to buy another hat pattern just to figure out how the top knot is done.
I’ve never done one, but I don’t see why you couldn’t leave a few more stitches on the needle and just continue knitting in the round till it’s long enough to tie the knot then either decrease a few to narrow the tip or cut the yarn about 8 in long and then thread it through the remaining stitches and cinch it up. Then you could take the tail and push it through the tip and weave it in on the inside.
This all works in my head, but like I said I haven’t tried it.
Try using more sts for the I cord, 5 or 6. Or you could do 8 sts in just stockinette and the edges would curl into a tube which you don’t need to sew, they’ll stay like that.
