Top Down Arm devision

Dear Gurus, does someone have a tip to stop the holes! I’m knitting the front of the Flax jumper, put 42 stitches on waste yarn then cast on 8 through back loops (right needle)join to left needle. Whatever I do the joining bits each side of the cast ons are holey especially on the next round. I hope that makes sense.

Oh, those holes! It may help to pick up an extra stitch on each end of the join then knit 2 sts together on the next round.
i’ve also worked duplicate stitch over an enlarged stitch at the gap and found that worked well.

I presume that these are holes at the underarm? I find that you can often resolve them when finishing the sleeve.
Patty Lyons method works well for me!!

Thank you that looks really interesting.

I am about to start the second sleeve on my first ever top down cardi. I used the method suggested by salmonmac. It worked like a charm. As of now, I have no holes on the completed sleeve. If just picking up an extra stitch each side doesn’t quite close the gap for you, try twisting the stitch when you knit them together. If all else fails, leave a long enough tail that you can sew them up in finishing. But I really think the extra picked up stitches will do the trick.

I’ve just come across another technique that will reduce the gaps with the backwards loop cast on!

Hm! That backwards loop cast on looks intriguing. The magic happens in the way the two stitches are picked up. I’ll have to remember this for my next top down project. Thanks for posting.
