Hello friends, I am looking for a full proof “ toe up sock pattern using German Short Rows”
I have tried to convert a regular top down sock pattern to a “ toe up” method with no success.
Thank you in advance for your help😀
Toe up sock pattern
For toe up socks with a GSR heel I work the foot until it’s 2 5/8" short of the desired length. Then I do the heel. Here’s a video showing how to do the heel. Since you asked for a pattern I’ll see if I can find one. I can’t promise fool proof because fools (like me) are just too darned creative and find ways to screw everything up. lol
I don’t have a reliable source to say that it’s true of most feet but measuring on my foot from directly below my ankle bone to the back of my heel is 2 5/8".
edit: I’m sorry but I’m not finding a pattern specifying GSR heel.
Thank you for your help!!
You can go to verypink.com She has a toe up sock using German short rows. The pattern is available there and comes with four part video tutorial. It is not free but not very expensive at all. I haven’t actually used this particular pattern but I really like her videos. She explains things so well. I think the pattern has directions for adult and children’s socks. Also uses dk yarn and dpn but has instructions for using magic loop I think. So you might take a look at this. Truthfully, I am actually thinking of purchasing it myself.
Looked on ravelry and it is there also as toe up lace socks by staci perry. And now I’m sure it’s going to be my next pair to do. This is what happens to me, I get to looking at something for someone else and I decide I just have to have it. Thanks, I think!!
This tutorial is nice and clear for GSR toes and heels. It is a tutorial rather than a pattern, so doesn’t give stitch counts.
However, if you already know what stitch count you need e.g. 64, 72 from knitting top-down socks, you can use the same numbers.
The same person has a “three in one” toe-up pattern called Ready, Set, Go Socks that is supported by tutorial videos. Her videos are very clear and she explains things well.
(It is referred to simply as a short-row heel in the pattern description, but I can see in the picture that it is specifically a German short row heel.)
Happy sock knitting!
