Toe up question

Simple question: I’m looking into starting my first pair of toe up socks, and I want to learn the Turkish Cast On method since I HATE crocheting anything. Most toe up patterns seem to use provisional cast on. Can I just substitute one for the other? Thanks!

I’ve never done a crochet cast-on on my toe-ups, I always use the Magic cast-on (I think) described in a knitty article, google knitty magic cast-on and you should get it. It describes a number of ways to start toes clearly and with photos, very helpful, I think it includes Turkish. There’s no reason you couldn’t sub any of these toes, I think, in any sock pattern, except perhaps for some complicated socks with a very specific set-up for something happening later… but even then, there would be a way.

I think the Turkish cast on is FAR easier than the provisional. I have a couple of sites for it at home. Let me know if you want them & I’ll pm them to you this evening when I get there.
