Sounds like it could work just fine, X. What bind off do you use for toe ups? I’m currently enamored of the lace, Russian, ktog, and various other names bind off. It can be done in pattern too.

The last time I used the lace bind off I had to redo it because it was…yeah, it really happened and I didn’t use larger needles…too loose to suit me.
been using lorraine l’s super stretchy no-flare ribbing bind off at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWS77BKk5NQ (i see you commented on it over a year ago!) but will check the russian style too. even with needles 1-2 sizes bigger than the rest of my project(s), my binding off is often tight, so i have to really watch it.
Lori’s bind off is a good one and I do like it. I couldn’t ever get the stretch factor right with it. I’ve tried all kinds of things including increasing the number of stitches before binding off, partial Jenny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off with yo’s when I switched to purls only, and finally found that for me the k2tog through the back loop works best. I don’t know why it makes it stretchier but it does.
For all the hours I spent running down info and how to and figuring out bind offs I like to think that I can pass on a bit of what I’ve learned to help someone else.
