Hi. I’m knitting a scarf in Purl Soho’s mini herringbone. The instructions are as follows:
Row 1 (wrong side): K1, p1, *p2tog and leave stitches on needle, purl the first stitch again and drop both stitches together from left-hand needle, repeat from * to last stitch, k1.
Row 2 (right side): K2, * slip 1 with yarn in back, k1, then with left-hand needle raise up the slipped stitch as if to bind off but before dropping off right-hand needle, knit it and then drop from needle, repeat from * to last stitch, k1.
My question, do you know of a video that addresses tinking this particular method of herringbone stitch? I’ve seen several for alternative herringbone stitches but not this one. Maybe they are applicable but I’m too new to knitting-tinking to know. This is a link to the tinking video I’ve seen that is most similar. Not sure if it will work but I can tell you that pulling the needle out of an entire row creates a nightmare with the Soho stitch recovery. Thanks for your help.
Yes, don’t pull the knitting out of the row. I’ve made a big herringbone cowl from Purl Soho and I didn’t dare.
I’d work up several rows on a swatch and experiment with tinking on that rather than your scarf. Maybe a lifeline would be helpful in case you need to do this again? (I sincerely hope not!)

Thank you so much. Brilliant idea about the life line. Would you suggest doing one of those every XXX rows? And I did practice on a swatch after reading your comment last night; that was very helpful to see what the stitches look like coming off the needles. Still struggling with picking up one of these particular herringbone stitches and I cannot find a video on the subject. I’ve found other herringbone patterns but not this one. Thanks again. Life saving!
Yes, put in the lifeline every so many rows (as many as you can bear to rip out if necessary). I found it very painful with the other herringbone pattern and I didn’t have the very helpful video that you posted.
Good luck with it. It’s such a good looking stitch pattern.

I just watched a Very Pink video about placing lifelines. YES! I think this is what is needed as tinking and then picking up is so complicated with this herringbone. BTW, I asked Purl Soho for a video on the subject. It looks as though they have deleted my comment. Ok, then…LOL. Thanks again, and I’ll let you know how it turns out. Gorgeous yarn from Miss Babs and a gorgeous pattern. Just a learning curve.
