Starting on the Timbo Vest pattern (begginner level) Ravelry: Timbo Vest pattern by Gabriella Calderini, and reading the pattern (yes, now learn the pattern before starting…. bad experience before), notice that might be an error (or I don’t understand the pattern at all). Did anyone already did this pattern or might help with the instructions? After working the collar with 68 stictches, the increase state the following:
On my count I keep having 112 sticthes (XS size - 68 + 8*5 + 4). What I’m not seeing? Where are the extra 8 stitches? Or when repeat is mentioned does not include the already knitted (1st round, 2nd round)?
Thanks a lot! (and sorry for al lthe newbie questions!)
The first and second rounds increases by 4sts each or 8sts total. Then repeat 5 times more or a total of 6 times (6x8=48). Plus 4sts from the repeat of round 1 and the original 68sts = 120. So the stitch is correct.
This will seem a bit tedious, but I highly recommend going through the whole pattern and circling or highlighting the instructions for your size. It would be awfully easy for your eye to skip to the next direction, especially when the sizes are on 2 lines. At least, it would be easy for MY eyes to do that!
It’s not only a cute vest, it should be cozy warm, with that waffle stitch being a type of thermal stitch.
Not silly–it happens to all of us. I find that when I’m not understanding something, it really helps to read it out loud. That often picks up that thing I’ve been skipping over.
It’s so easy to skip a direction or a number that we all can confess to it at one time or another (or both). I agree with ColoCro, read the direction aloud or have someone else do a dramatic reading of the pattern section to you. Somehow hearing it can trigger your brain in a different way.
Have fun knitting the vest and please post a photo when you finish!
