Tie front vest help!

Hello all!

I am currently making http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/122-tie-front-cabled-long-vest in size medium.

The pattern reads “rib to 1 stitch before the marker, ssp, slip marker A, k2tog, rib to next marker, ssk, slip marker A, p2tog, rib to end” thus decreasing 4 stitches from 139 to 135.

I didn’t understand how with the marker in the way to do a ssp. So I removed the marker, ssp and put the marker back. Thought this would be fine until I went to set up the cables several rows later. Suddenly those markers are in the wrong places as I follow the pattern to knit so many stitches before sliding the marker, etc.

Can anyone tell me how I’m supposed to work that ssp? If I rib to one stitch before the marker, I should have one stitch, marker, rest of the stitches right? So how does one do that?

Your help is VASTLY appreciated  Thanks so much! I hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day!

That’s got to be an error in the instructions. It must be “rib to 2 stitches before the marker …” to work out correctly.

I would have done the same thing, removed the marker and re-inserted it. I don’t see any mention of errata on the Ravelry page or on the designer’s page. See if working to 2sts before the marker as Julie suggests puts the marker in the correct place for the following directions. If not, you may have to decide on the best placement or use the line of decreases to help with cable placement.
It’s a lovely looking vest. Thanks for the pattern link.

Thank you. I’ll try that! I’m the world’s slowest knitter (I barely get time to knit in! lol), so it may take me a few days to report back, but I definitely will and will try your suggestion.

Thank you for looking! I looked on ravelry notes, too, and haven’t seen any errata so thought it was just me! Attempting Dclutterchique’s suggestion! Thank you!

Clutter/Julie and SalmonMac THANK YOU SO MUCH! Doing the SSP and SSK before the marker fixed it. Thank you very much! I appreciate your help and kindness to this noob pattern reader

Great! Glad you’ve got it working. We’d love to see a photo when you finish if you’d like to post one.

I’m happy the pattern’s now working out for you. I’m always pleased when a knitter is rescued from a pattern error - especially one that nearly made them ‘throw in the yarn’.
