Does anyone know what the care instructions should be for thrummed mittens? The thrums are 100% cotton and the rest is acrylic.
They can’t be 100% cotton and have any acrylic in them. :?? I would wash according to the directions on the yarn label.
I thought thrummed mittens were always wool?
Are the thrums cotton batting? I would be a tad concerned about shrinking, so I’d only handwash, cold.
No no i mean the pieces of wool i used specifically for the THRUM pieces that i added to my ACRYLIC piece were 100 % cotton and the base yarn is acrylic. That’s why i’m confused.
So you used something like cotton batting (can’t be wool roving if it’s cotton) to make thrums in acrylic mittens? I would guess the acrylic is machine wash and dryable, but I’d be worried about the cotton thrums, so I would stick to the hand (or at least cold) wash, drip dry.
Have you worn them yet? With cotton thrums, I’d also be worried that sweaty hands would stay wet (I had a pair of thrummed mits long ago for skiing, and my hands would sweat, but the wool was keeping them mostly dry, not soggy).

I havent’ worn them yet but i’ve tried them on and i love them! They are a gift for my mother in law who lives in a very cold climate. I wonder if any of you guys have heard the idea that you are supposed to wear them for a while untill they “felt” to the shape of your hand before you wash them? I’m trying to figure out all the care instrunctions before i write a little poem to go with it. They were really fun to make if anyone is thinking about making them they were super easy to learn.
Thanks for all the help i think i’ll stick with cold wash after a little wear.

Oh, yes! In fact, the pair I had, after awhile, had “fingers” - it had felted so that each finger had it’s own little “pocket”.
but…your 100% cotton won’t felt, will it? :??
They sound like they will be warm but I don’t think your thrums will felt because they are 100% cotton. The ones made with wool roving will felt but I have never heard of cotton felting.
