Hello,
I need help on relocating the BOR marker on the THroughstone Pattern by Bristol Ivy. If anyone has done this and can help I would appreciate it. To relocate the BOR the pattern says:
“Relocate BOR marker as follows: Remove m, k5 (8, 5, __, 8, __) {k3 (3, __, __, 8)}, replace m.
All Sizes 120 (130, 140, 150, 150, 170) {180 (190, 200, 210, 210)} sts be tween BOR marker and first steek marker.”
I have 480 sts. for size 501/4. I am unsure how to relocate the BOR properly. I was supposed to knit one complete round after the Japanese short rows. THe orange marker was the BOR marker I was using after attaching the sleeve. The white markers are the steek markers, and follow the same vertical rows up from the 10 steek stitches at the bottom of the sweater. The green marker shows 150 sts. away form the steek markers.
The issue/confusion I have is there are 10 stitches between the orange and green. However, accd. to the pattern the new BOR should be located 150 sts. from the steek marker, (so if done correctly there should only have been those k8 stitches between the orange and green, but I have 10. ) The directions were ’ relocate BOR marker as follows: Remove m, k8 replace m"
However, I am wondering if this is even a problem. My thinking is that the yoke pattern is based off 10 sts. 480 is divisible by 10, and with the steek markers properly aligned top and bottom, shouldn’t the yoke pattern work anyway? If i lose 2 stis. to make that k8 then I don’t have a number divisible by 10. I appreciate any help or guidance that anyone can offer-Thanks

Read further in the pattern and see how the chart is worked. The steeked sts are going to be worked in alternating colors so they won’t be part of the chart. I like to center a chart motif either side of the steek and if you want to do that you might work out how the chart will split at the steek.
See if you like that and then adjust the BOR marker accordingly (presumably at the beginning of the chart). Also make sure that won’t affect any decrease positions on the following rounds.
Thanks for the reply. Yes the chart indicates a separate 10 st. pattern for the steek. I marked this off (in white) I counted 150 st. indicated in the pattern from there which is the green and should be the new BOR. What I am having trouble figuring out is those extra 10 sts between the old BOR (orange). The pattern says to k8, so that would leave 2 extra. I am unsure if I am even reading correctly, because shouldn’t the fact 480 is divisible by 10 allow for that pattern to be repeated completely? and then when you have to decrease, it is still even? I can’t wrap my head around it.
If the total number of sts that the pattern is calling for isn’t divisible by 10 (maybe 478 in your case?) then it’s likely that the pattern splits at the steek and doesn’t continue precisely on the other side. Probably 4sts on one side and 4 on the other.
If this is so, decrease the 2 extra sts on the yoke.
Ya that is where it gets hard. usually patterns give you the number of sts. you should have for each size at important junctures in the process, this one doesn’t. the pattern is just 10 sts repeated yoke and a different 10 st. pattern for steek. so i will go ahead and just use the bor as the indicated 150 from steek and throw caution to the wind haha. Thank you for your replies
