I’ve been using one of the herbal put-in-the-microwave and apply to joint that hurts things, and they’re really useful, but boring looking. I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of yarn that isn’t animal based that can be used to make these? I’d like to make a pretty one, but don’t know what would go on fire or melt or something. Obviously not acrylic, but what about cotton etc?
have a look on the safety label/packaging of the herbal thing - maybe you can find something that matches the official material?
The one we’ve got seems to be cotton.
Cotton’s so tough. It may get a bit stiff or mis-shapen over time, but I think it would work really well.

Cotton or Linen are a fairly safe bet. Especially since my iron never seem to get hot enough to beat the wrinkles out of my shirts
Not sure but hemp and bamboo might be worth investigating
I have a homemade one out of terry cloth (cotton or maybe an cotton/acryllic blend). If you’re knitting one, though, you may want to line it with a tightly woven fabric so it doesn’t leak whatever you stuff it with.

I have some chunky cotton so I think I’m going to knit on way smaller needles and see what I get with it - the one I’ve got doesn’t seem to have a material patch on it - it was really cheap but great 
It’s a kind of fleece material so I’m thinking it’s probably cottonish.
I will let you see what I come up with!
I’ve HEARD (not experienced) that bamboo catches fire in the microwave. Probably not the best to use.
