This time last year

…I was thinking, “It would be fun to have a baby to knit for.”

Now I’m thinking…“I HAVE FOUR BABIES TO KNIT FOR BETWEEN NOW AND APRIL!!!” Two friends at work and two at church are expecting! :cheering:

So far, I know one’s having a girl, one won’t find out until their little one arrives, and the other two are unknown at the moment. I need ideas for relatively inexpensive and unisex baby gifts! My ideas so far:

  1. Teddy bears
  2. Sweaters/cardigans (due dates are October, December, January, and April)
  3. Bibs

For the mothers among us - what was something you got that you LOVED, or something you didn’t get that would have been helpful/fun? I’ve never knitted for a baby before, so this is a whole new world for me.

At first I thought you were going to say you were pregnant and expecting quadruplets! :oo:

How about hats or booties? Those are quick and don’t take too much yarn. I have done little sweaters and baby blankets, but only if they’re for a close friend or relative since there can be a lot of time and yarn required!

I’ve never made a bib, and it’s been years since my own babies were babies…but I remember bibs turning rapidly into things I thought would be best burned after outliving their usefulness. If you’re going to invest the time to knit something, make it something that might have a shot at being passed down over the years (IMHO).

Have fun!

me too…

I’ve been knitting a baby afghan. I just love those nice handmade blankets for little ones to snuggle up in.

Also, you can never go wrong with baby hats or baby mittens. I’m sure that hand knitted face cloths would be nice and soft for a new baby, too.

Wow! That’s exciting! There’s a pattern for a really simple rolled brim hat with an i-cord bow running through it to tighten or loosen it in “Last Minute Knitted Gifts”. It takes one skein of Mission Falls 1824 Cotton and I worked it up in one night (which is something!) except for the i-cord.

Funny, I’m feeling the same way, lots of babies lately, and we’re talking about our own, but this time last year…I was just learning how to knit!!
