I’m making a candle flame shawl, and I decided not to post this in the KAL, because they’re done and this question doesn’t pertain to the actual shawl. But, I’m doing stranded work, because I ran out of my first yarn (Lambs Pride Worsted in Red Baron, dye lot 100) and couldn’t find any more of it, like anywhere. So I got a different color and, to make the color switch look intentional, I plan to finish the candle flames in the red that I already started and then start the orange. (Mmmmmmalabrigo Worsted in Glazed Carrot, dye lot 21 04 04) The back of the shawl looks terrible, because there are string hanging all over the place. What do I do about the strings from the stranded work? (Like if you carry yarn over a few stitches, you get this look. The loops are like 9-10 stitches long!!!) Thanks in Advance!
You catch them every few sts, usually 3 is the advised number. So every 3 sts you just cross the yarns over, or twist them around each other once, in the back. It doesn’t take much-- you don’t have to twist them 14 times or anything:) . Just enough to catch it. Your color solution sounds very cool!
You can catch the long strand in a stitch or two as you go along the row, that way they won’t be hanging loose.
Watch this video and she’ll show you how to catch those loops. ![]()
