Hi! I’ve started this cowl (The Shift by Andrea Mowby) at least three times but can’t get past the first section. When I switch colors-am I cutting the yarn and then rejoining when called for? I don’t understand how to carry the different colored yarns up the pattern. Help?!?!
The Shift Cowl (Andrea Mowby) and yarn
Hello
It might help to know the pattern designer name or publisher, and a number. Or a link to the pattern.
Some patterns work well carrying colours up, some perhaps not.
Welcome to the forum!
Maybe this Shift?
At any rate, here’s a method for carrying the yarn up in circular knitting that may help.
It is the Shift Cowl by Drea Renee Knits (Andrea Mowby).
Yes it is! It’s really beautiful but geez is it frustrating me!
I usually carry up one color and on the next round carry up color 2 and then on the third round, carry up color 3. That way I’m not carrying all three colors in one thick bunch on the same round.
When I hear, Shift I immediately think of Andrea Mowry. A friend has knit 2 of these and they are gorgeous.
Hi, I have this pattern so I’ve had a look through the instructions. You need to break a colour at the end of each section. The pattern tells you which colour to break ( this means cut the yarn). This is written as the last instruction for each section.
The advice I’ve had in the past for fair isle designs is that you usually carry yarn if it crosses a few rows, but if the gap between the colour repeat is more than this, you get a better result with cutting and rejoining.
It’s a good looking cowl that I haven’t got around to making yet!
