I’m new to knitting but very ambitious! The very fist line for the lace slipper is “worked over 13 sts”. I’m used to it saying “cast on__” how ever many sts. Does “worked over 13 sts” mean cast on 13? …HELP
thanks,

thanks,
Usually when a pattern reads “worked over x sts” they mean there is some sort of pattern that is x sts wide and will be repeated over and over. It it not the number of CO sts.
If you provide a little more of the pattern (first few lines) we could help you out a bit more.
The name of the pattern and a link would help, too, when asking questions. ![]()
I agree with the previous poster. It should still tell you the number you cast on if it’s an actual pattern for a lace slipper.
it starts by telling me the tension, then instructions then this:
Lace panel(worked over 13 sts)
1st row:(RS). K3. yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso. yfwd. Sl1. K2tog. psso. yfwd. K2tog. yfwd. K3.
2nd and alt rows:…
Now i understand everything, i just don’t know how to start it.
The lines you’ve quoted are the lace pattern repeat. They use 13 sts. If you keep reading down the page, I’m sure it will tell you how many sts to cast on and whether there are some edge sts or not. Keep reading!
Those are adorable. :cheering:
I know right!! i can’t wait to have them finished.
That’s normal for a pattern to tell you the pattern repeat first. Look further down the pattern.
I also found some errata for that pattern! Since it’s a purchased pattern we can’t see it, but try looking further down.
