The Incredible Bulk

A couple of months ago my hubahub was complaining about how cold it is in our house and he doesn’t like to wear a sweater when he’s working but wanted a vest, but a WARM VEST. So I dug out this incredible thick thick yarn I bought from the lady down the road who has sheep. I knew I didn’t have enough of it for a whole vest so I combined it with some Lamb’s Pride turquoise, and some of my beautiful white slubby yarn and dark gorgeous brown yarn… and came up with this vest.

He wouldn’t even wait for me to block it, started wearing it immediately.
One of our friends laughed at it but !!! we like it! He says it’s as warm as a furnace. (Ingrid, do you think it would look better blocked or coz it’s bulky anyhow I should just leave it for that country look?)

Can you believe it came from this pattern: (still can’t do a here link
sorry, I’m working on it )

And here’s the modern version.

That’s fantastic!!! And what a hilarious photo on the original pattern! :roflhard:

 Love it! If he loves it as is, I see no reason to block

Gorgeous! I love the combinations of the different yarns. It looks super warm too!

Yeah! That picture looks like a combination of Eddy Haskell ? on

Leave It to Beaver and my husband when he was young (except he was more handsome)

Here he is in it btw: (he doesn’t care if colors go together or not, what’s a girl gonna do)

OH, it was too short too so I picked up stitches and just did more ribbing with a different combo, funny it brought the thing together better.

I just love it! It is really great looking and I like the colors.

Great Job! Isn’t it wonderful when they love what you knit for them? :cheering:

It looks great! I love the color combo, and the great texture!!

Very nice – I like it!

Your friends laughed at it??! :?? I think it looks great! Nice job pulling it all together!

Way cool! Now, you should knit him a matching hat!

Your friends laughed at it??! I think it looks great! Nice job pulling it all together!

don’cha KNOW that laugh??? the I’m so jealous that “I” don’t have one, laugh, so I’ll just make fun laugh??? I shut up a group of boy scout leaders when the were noodling me about making sox for my dh. I told them to just stop, cuz they were just jealous that they didn’t have as talented wives me!!! with a twinkle in my eye of course!!! Haven’t heard anything of them in a while. I’ll for sure make them all a pair sooner or later.

This, the same group of guys that told another scout when boasting that HE was going to marry for money. The leader said, look around…ALL of these men are married (5 guys), and ALL of them are HAPPILY married!!! You don’t really see that very often. I like boy scouts…

And…this is making me crazy…I KNOW I’ve seen that picture…and I don’t think I’ve seen it before St. Pats day THIS year. Is that THIS year you took it??? or AM I going kookoonuts??

I think it looks great and it’s wonderful that he loves it! If he’s wearing it, don’t bother to block. You’ll have to rip it off him to wash it at some point, and you can mess with it then if you want.

I was thinking the same thing, but it was in a St. Patrick’s Day post from this year that the picture was already posted. I know, I did a double take too!

I like it a lot and can’t imagine why anyone would laugh at it. And I agree with Ingrid–if you are dying to block it, just do it the first time you wash it.

I love it! I think the stripes definatly add a little je ne sais quoi, great work! I think it is lovely ‘country style’ because after all it is just that kind of a vest.

Thanks you guys!!! Yeah that pic was posted in this year’s St. Pat’s day pix, just last week. It has a little bit of green Donegal wool in it from Ireland so it was very appropriate!

Our friend who gulped and laughed at it is 83 and used to be a razzledazzle cruise director on all the big ships AND a dancer in Miami and Cuba. He ‘took care’ of people like Erroll Flynn, Ava Gardner, many stars and royalty (his scrapbooks are amazing) so he’s always prides himself on wearing Armani and what not which is funny coz he gets these white dinner jackets downtown for like $5 and wears silk cravats and stuff

so I guess that’s why he laughed. NOT Armani this vest!

Funny side story about him, he came over for dinner and his feet were cold so he put on my DH’s most beautiful big thick green socks, first pair I ever made so they have sentimental value and after he left, got home, he calls and says “I have one of those green socks on but just one.” (he was supposed to take them off before leaving) So we went a bit crazy although we didn’t yell. Then we found the other sock in the laundry basket… He brought the sock back and it had a big hole in the bottom.
He said “Don’t you know you have to reinforce the bottoms!”

 The other sock was perfectly thick and whole so we figured he caught it on a nail in his apartment.

nice sweater vest and c-u-t-e husband!!!

Sweet!
