Thanks?

Just curious. I notice that now it shows that I’ve been thanked 2 times. Since I haven’t helped anyone, but lots of you have helped me, I can’t imagine why anyone would’ve thanked me.

I don’t know how I’d find out which post I was thanked for, but more importantly it made me think - if I thank someone for their post, do they see it?

Yes if you thank someone it shows, I did it to your post. It could be that people clicked on the thanks by accident and didn’t notice.

Or perhaps, without realizing it, you said something that helped someone out?

I agree with Salmonac. It could be something as simple as putting a pattern link for something you shared.

Nice thought, but I seriously doubt it

You might be surprised at what turns out to be helpful to someone else. Sometimes, asking a question helps someone else.

Often when you post feedback on someone’s FO, they will hit the “thanks” button rather than respond to every post.

For example, GG thanked you in this way when you commented on her nifty Tunisian crocheted bag. It’s quicker and it helps us say that we appreciate the comments. Plus, the more you post, the more likely it is that you will be thanked, not that it’s a competition or anything, but it’s just that everyone–from beginners to pros–has something to contribute on this forum.

Yeah, take a look at my numbers. I’ve been here for over 6 years though! Being thanked means someone is appreciate or sometimes it means they agree with you on a comment. It’s a good thing.

If I may extrapolate from when I was a teacher: sometimes someone will have a question but be unable to phrase it clearly.

One of your posts may have phrased that person’s question in a way that got the answer she was waiting for. That’s worth a “Thanks!” any day.

Or comment!
Thanks, DCM, I’ve tried to say that before but it never came out so well.

Oh that was it - it’s the memory thing, I’d forgotten all about that!

Oh definitely - scanning the forums I’m reading about things I never heard of before and seeing answers to questions I didn’t have lol. Perfect example, a “lifeline”.
