Textured stitches don’t match

Hi there,

I’m making the Le Knit Terracotta sweater, which is an excellent pattern!

I’ve completed the texture pattern chart when flat no problem, but when I joined in the round and have continued the same chart, the stitches look markedly different.

I’m not sure if it’s the way I’ve knit/purled in the round versus flat? Any advice is really appreciated!

Unfortunately your upload didn’t work. Maybe you need to resize the photo and try again.

I resized and was able to upload, thank you!

What a lovely sweater with beautiful stitchwork!
It could be that your knit sts are twisted. Maybe when you knit flat you twist the knit then correct the twist when you purl? If you go on to knit in the round there won’t be the purl row to correct the knits. See the blue dots below.

Is that the problem you’re seeing?

Thank you for your comment and advice - it really is a lovely pattern!

I have had that issue with twisting my knit stitches before and thought I had addressed that, but obviously not. I wonder would the solution be to knit the non-texture knit rows (which were previously purl rows) twisted?

There is a way of knitting in which knits are twisted and then untwisted on purl rows. @GrumpyGramma don’t you knit Combination? Is this similar to what you do?

If you don’t want to change to working this way which is fine for stockinette but requires changes for in the round and garter stitch, then paying attention to how you wrap the yarn or whether you knit into the front or back loop will help correct the twist.

Thank you! I knit my knit stitches through the back, but will frog back and try knitting through the front to create the same effect as my rows which were knitted flat before I joined in the round.

Sounds good. Knitting through the back loop will definitely twist the sts.

Combination knitting could be the problem. But no. I don’t do that. I use Norwegian purling or just knit the purl row without turning the work for straight stockinette. My stitches are all mounted the same way.
