Texting gloves

I am looking for a pattern for texting gloves. What I am finding is actually fingerless gloves. I need gloves that only expose the thumb and forefinger. I found a pair in the store last year and against my better judgement did not get a second pair. Now I can’t find them anywhere. I do wildlife photography in my off time and they work well on cold days( why freeze the rest of my fingers). Any help would be appreciated. I did find a crocheted pattern if any one knows how to convert it.

you can probably get a pattern for a full fingered gloves much easier and leave off the tips of the fingers you want free

Really all you’d need to do though is put a buttonhole in the finger and thumb so you have both available.

Thanks for all the good advice. I think the button hole would the buttonhole would work the best. I am not quite sure of placement and exicution. I will have do a little more research.

This is what they look like when you wear them:

You can retreat the fingers into the glove, of course.

All I did was leave a horizontal gap of a little less then half the stitches of the finger by casting off in one round and casting back on (knit cast on) in the next.
My glove pattern and design are improvised because I always do that, really. But you can practically use any glove that is knit top down or bottom up (just not sideways :slight_smile: ).

If you need your finger for camera handling and text messages, then I guess, the hole could be partway up the finger (less dangleing). My gloves were made for hunting and therefore the trigger needs to be pulled. (the thumb was because of my dad’s smart phone, though).

I’ve never seen one like that. My daughter has one that just has the buttonhole in the thumb and it works great. You really don’t need that much of your fingers out to text.

I totally agree: The hole does not have to be so far down for texting.
My father is a hunter and uses a gun with these. You want precise feeling in your finger on the trigger and you don’t want to get stuck.
therefore the finger needs to be well exposed. (Also not for all that long in time).
Since I made the index finger hole there, I did the same with the thumb. Otherways it would have looked rather odd.

I just made gloves for my texting son using an afterthought thumb. I did what the other poster did. At the base of the thumb on the inside, I cast off half the thumb then cast on again.
