Sweater too big

Hello! I recently knitted a sweater for my girlfriend using Rauma fivel yarn (100% wool) and it ended up way too large. It was quite large before blocking and it got even worse after blocking. I’m wondering if there is any way to fix this? Or should I just cut my losses and frog it and reknit?

I knit it from the bottom up so I had a really hard time knowing what size it was throughout the process as I’ve never done that before and this is only my third sweater.

Welcome to the forum!
It’s a very beautiful and well done sweater. Is it too large around the torso or is it that the raglan decrease line is too long?
Can you tell us a pattern name and designer please?

Maybe this booklet?

Gsnail you’ve made it so niceley, it’s a shame it doesn’t fit!

Thank you

It’s this pattern: Ravelry: 416-6 Islender herre pattern by Stina Fredriksson

It’s too big pretty much everywhere - too wide and too long. The raglan decrease line is also too long. In retrospect I should have been more careful when choosing the size and gauge :face_with_peeking_eye:

Great looking sweater and very good in your contrast colors. Yes, too big all over but truly impressive for your third sweater.
WIth raglans, it’s one of the times that row gauge is also important. If you get stitch gauge but row gauge is off then you’ll need to adjust the frequencey of decreases so that the raglan line is the correct length. (Learned this the hard way.) If it were just the raglan lines you could take out the top part from the armhole shaping and reknit with more frequent decreases. Since it’s too big all over giving the sweater away or reknitting is the best way to go.

Before you take it apart, this is a really good time to make notes about the size, stitch and row gauge because a full size sweater can pull down under its own weight and become longer. You can calculate now how many rows to underarm for the prefered length of body and sleeves, it will be more accurate than a small swatch (and this one is also blocked so you get finished sizing). If the rows on the smaller size work out right then great, if not you can decide how to make shorter or longer as needed based on this really useful, large “swatch”.
