I started a sweater and have the back almost done. Starting the front it says to work same as back until 9 inches from beginning armhole shaping. I don’t understand what this means. Could someone please help me? Do I go to where the armhole is in the back? Thanks!!!
Please tell us the name of the pattern and designer. And can you copy the exact wording of that part? You can post a pic of that part of the pattern, just not the whole pattern due to designer copyright.
This is from a magazine a long time ago…It is called GiGi. It says for the Front: Work same as back until 9 inches from beginning armhole shaping. Not sure what that means! Thank you!
Hmm, does it give any indication of how long the pieces will be when you actually do reach the armhole, or what you do after reaching 9” before armhole shaping? I can see why you’d find this confusing.
Have you finished the back of the sweater? Is the sweater knit bottom up?
If bottom up as many older patterns are, lay the back flat and measure the length from the bottom hem or cast on to the beginning of the armhole (usually this is a cast off of a few sts) Now subtract 9 inches from that measurement and call that number A. As you work the front, stop when you reach measurement A. That will be 9 inches from the beginning of the armhole shaping.
Hello
Hope I’m not putting a spanner in the works here but to me “work same as back until 9 inches from beginning armhole shaping” means measure 9 inches from first armhole bind off, up, towards shoulder. It is possibly worked less than the back and is a measurement for beginning front neck shaping.
@dude7373 please could you type out what the instruction is to do at the 9 inch from armhole shaping. Is it neck shaping? Is it something else?
Also could you check what the back instruction was for this same area, work to how many inches? And then do what? Shape neck? Shape shoukder? Bind off?
You could take a photo of the pattern but cover up the parts we don’t need if you don’t want to type it out.
That’s a possibility too. It depends as Shintoga mentioned on what the instructions are for the following steps, shoulder bind off or some detail in the sweater body.
There are 45 sweaters called GIGI on Ravelry. Maybe you can take a photo of the pattern picture, as well as part of the text? It would really help to be able to see what it is going to look like.
