Sweater Stone reviews

Awhile back someone had posted a thread about the Sweaterstone for shaving pills and fuzzies of things…I have several fleeces and felted items that could really use some help so I ordered it. I just tried it and have mixed feelings…it put a small hole in my fleece vest and it is so rough that it tugs at the fabric and cannot be used on anything fragile or loose knit. Plus, I found that my vest was filled with “sand” after using the sweater stone on it and had to toss it in the laundry.
Anyone else ever use this?

P.S. today I saw they sell these at Eddie Bauer.

I bought a sweater shaver at Brookstone when I was Christmas shopping for $20. They had a demo model out, so I shaved he sweater I was wearing which was in desperate need of a shave on the fore arms. It worked so well I bought one for myself. I’ve used it every time I put on a sweater for the day, and give it a shave. It works great without taking off more than it needs to.

I love my sweater stone, but it does take a lighter hand than you think to remove the pills. Mine does get a bit “sandy”, but not so much that I can’t simply brush it off with my hand.
Sorry about your vest.

MMMmmm, I’ve had similar experience vaknitter. I ordered the sweaterstone from Knitpicks a while back. I found it worked ok, but only on certain types of sweaters–nothing too fine guage–and sometimes I feel the need to give them a wash after removing the pills. I guess its just a given part of using merino wool–short fibers pill.
