Sweater pilling

Hi everyone:
I have been knitting about 10 years now and have pretty much exclusively (except for socks) used acrylic yarns. This is primarily due to cost and to be easily washable. I have noticed that EVERYTHING is starting to pill. Is this because it is acrylic or is there something else going on? Is there anything I can do to minimize this?
Thanks all!

I hate pills and take note of yarns that don’t then hope they aren’t discontinued.
Wool yarn pills too. With wool it’s related to the length of the fibers that are spun into the yarn and how loosely the yarn has been spun.
One way to reduce pilling is to hand wash and lay flat to dry. You can also turn items inside out for the machine if they are machine washable or wash by hand.
There are devices to remove pills like fine tooth combs. There is going to be thinning of the fabric but shavers and combs do get rid of the pills. It’s not just you.

I finally gave in and got some of those battery operated shaver type things to remove pills. For a big job, like a blanket I crocheted in the 80s that was so pilly I could no longer stand it, I got a Gleener. It took a long time to clean that bugger up and it didn’t look quite as good as new but it was worth the effort. The blanket is acrylic yarn, whatever I could pick up a skein at a time locally. I think at that time KMart was my local source for cheaper stuff.

Thank you both! I’m glad it’s not me! I just got one of those shaver things.
