Swallowtail Shawl

After sucessfully completing Branching Out, I am fearlessly beginning the Swallowtail Shawl http://www.interweave.com/knit/interweave_knits/Galleries/bonus/fall_2006/swallowtail.asp (Iwish I could figure out how to hyperlink on this forum!)

I have her cast on and am moving on to the second chart. It says to work rows 1-6 of… chart 14 times total. Now, I assume I do exactly as it says, but why are some of the stitiches surrounded by a red box=pattern repeat? Are they just telling me that those few stitches are the repeating oval thingies of the overall pattern? Do I need to do anything special with these few stitches in the red box?

Usually a pattern doesn’t have the entire thing on the chart, or it would be too wide. The stitches in the red lines are repeated ‘X’ number of times until you get to the last stitches of the chart.

So, yes, they are the ovaly thingies. :teehee:

Thanks Ingrid. I sat down with the wool and needles and figured it out. I’m thankful for the reassurance by you. :muah:
