Super bulky yarn, fold up brim

Hi!

I’ve been knitting hats and I see that the new trend is to have a small ribbed brim but that looks terrible on me. I have been adding a fold up brim on all the hats, which I like much better. So, I have never worked with super bulky yarn before. I’m knitting this hat:

And I’m wondering if a fold up brim will work with super bulky yarn? Or will it look weird or be too heavy to fold?

Thanks so much!

@hartleystudio will a bulky fold up brim be comfortable? Or too warm?

I like a deeper rib at the brim too. Whether to make the brim deeper is partially dependent on the softness and suppleness of the super bulky yarn. That fold can be very pretty or too much bulk. I would give it a try with the worst case being that you might have to rip out half of the rows if the fold creates too much hat.

I’m mostly wondering about comfort. I don’t want it to be too tight or look weird. I live in Illinois and I’m cold 70% of the year so too warm is an asset. HAHA

I don’t know why I never think to just knit it and then rip out if it’s not good. Thank you so much!

I am THRILLED with how this turned out. It’s like a giant, squishy hug for my head. I can’t wait for it to be freezing next winter!

I love the colors. Recently saw a pattern called emergency hat ( which can transform to a cowl). It’s on ravelry. I think the yarn for the main part of beanie would be great. What yarn did you use?

I used Malabrigo Rasta. I LOVE IT. It’s so so so so soft. The colorways are here:
