Sun Hat for Toddler pattern?

Hello

I am looking for a sun hat for my 4 year old. I can only find ladies and babies. I would like a floppy wider brim hat she can wear to the beach.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

DeAnn

Ravelry search for child’s sun hat. HTH

I just made this one for my soon to be 4 year old granddaughter…

I did seed stitch for the band to match the dress I made for her…

Oh pretty, thank you. Could I do a picot cast on for the brim??

I think a picot cast on will be beautiful…Can’t wait to see what you come up with…
Have you decided on your yarn?

if you go to ravelry and look up usamacka there, you will see my granddaughter in the hat. She is very tiny so hat looks a little big on her but I think it is perfect for the Florida sun. The hat is shown in the Shades of Summer dress project.

OHHHH how lovely!!
Well I made her a beach bag using sports shine cotton and cotton worsted. She loves putting on her sunglasses and throwing that bag on her shoulder and prances around. I thought I would make a hat to match her beachbag!! I will post pictures…my granddaughter is 4 as well. Isnt it fun knitting for them?? I love it!!

Thank you so much for your help and your granddaughter is gorgeous!!!

DeAnn

Thank you Jan!

Is that your granddaughter in the dress??? I love that dress. I couldn’t find that specific hat pattern though. The one she is wearing with the matching dress, is that the hat you are talking about??

DUH… I found it.

Yes that is the granddaughter…red head!!! and wild!! Yes I just changed the ribbing for the seed stitch. I only had a little purple yarn left so it is in the crown but you can’t see it on the picture…I was sorry i didn’t do the band in the yellow with green around it…but she is happy!!! I am also knitting her the french bathing suit pattern on ravelry too right now…It was RIPPED out but almost to where I was when that happened. You might like that for your granddaughter too…
Shades of summer is the dress pattern on ravelry also.

Hi again!! I have started the hat pattern YAY. I have a question. Where it says to knit 3.5 inches “from the beginning” do you mean from the beginning of the band or cast on edge? In other words do I start measuring from the top of the brim or bottom?

Thank you!!!

after you knit the band portion…then go up 3.5 inches and then start your decreases…band is not included in the 3.5 inches…

Hi guys,

From my experience “knitted” & “sun hat” - don’t no go together unless knitted from really thin yarn. What I see on this links are beautiful spring hats but I can image wearing something similar in a hot summer day.

I recently made a sun hat from Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn (worsted weight) and it worked just fine. I really like the results.
