Hi there, I am getting very confused, I have a pattern for Olivia cardigan by Premier Yarns - everyday worsted anti pilling acrylic. I live in the UK so it will take a few weeks for it to arrive from America. I have tried looking for a substitute which isn’t overly expensive and gives a soft comfortable finish. I am a fairly new knitter so wouldn’t want to make an expensive mistake. Confusion multiplies with differing advice on line, some saying that you can use DK or Aran instead, but that means changing needle size too , can anyone help please.
I’d say do swatches with the yarns you’re planning to substitute, because not all yarns are equal, even when they’re the same ‘weight’.
If you haven’t already found it, there’s also a site that suggests yarn substitutions - https://yarnsub.com/
And even when u have the same yarn and needle sizes as the pattern, you can still not end up with the same gauge as the pattern! So it all depends on the gauges that you make!!
