stuck on a cable stitch

If you don’t mind doing this, it may help.

OK, here goes!
Skip next 2 sts, work FPDC in 3rd and 4th sts,

working in front of FPDC just made, work FPDC in 2nd skipped st (green marker)

and FPDC in 1st (orange marker).

The return row simply says to do 4 BPDC in those stitches.
Here are the 4 stitches you need to work into, in the order orange, green, yellow, purple (the yellow tries to hide behind the green!):

First BPDC, viewed from the back of fabric:

First BPDC finished, from front of fabric:

The 2nd BPDC (green), viewed from front of fabric–I sometimes hold my work this way, so I can see where to put my hook:

Third (yellow) (this one’s hard! ):

First 3, from the front–notice how the 3rd one still hides behind the others:

And #4 (purple):

And done!

It was very hard to get good angles, but I hope this might help.

O M G!!! This is perfect! Using the markers was genius. I’ve had my AHA moment and have been practicing all morning. Apparently I was taking the pattern a little too literally, and placing the BP in a straight row across, which totally obliterated the cable cross.
I’m forever grateful that you took the time to help me out. I’ll practice this more then start the pattern again for the 4th time. I’ll try to post a picture in a few weeks when I have something to show. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.

Oh, I’m so happy I could help! I love using markers to color-code things, and actually in this case I could use them as “handles” to tug the hidden stitches forward. Of course, I only had a single cable, not a whole blanket’s worth, but maybe you could just put them on those difficult-to-find stitches.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!
