Stuck before I start! RS of rib?

Hello
This feels daft…

1 x 1 Rib section
Row 1. k1, p1, etc
Row 2. p1, k1, etc
Work in 1 x 1 Rob for 10cm ending with RS row

Which is the right side? Row 1?
Does it even matter?
Next row is a purl row of decreases setting up for stocking stitch.

Thanks
New pattern , new set of inexperienced questions on their way!

If you used long tail cast on, one side of the cast on looks better than the other. Use the side you like better as RS.

Thank you.
Yes I am using long tail cast on, does that mean row 1 is RS?

If you had the needle in your right hand and the yarn in your left hand while doing long tail cast-on, I would consider the first row you work as WS. But it is completely up to you to define any side as the RS or the WS.

Thank you

Just come back to say I can see it now!
I was knitting a swatch earlier and couldn’t tell the difference from one side to the other although I knew there had to be.
Now I’ve started on my project, I can actually see and feel one side is smooth like knit and the other bumpy like purl.

I had to cast on 4 times as I kept discovering loops which were not real cast on stitches…
And I’m also knitting in black yarn which I knew wouldn’t be a good idea.

Not off to a great start really but at least I’ve clicked with the RS WS of cast on!
Thank you again
