I’m hoping someone can help me. I am an advanced beginner…i think and am using this pattern to make for my grand daughter, but can’t seem to get the TCO in the first 4 rows to work out to the correct number of stitches. Either I have one too many or one too few. Thanks in advance. Kz
Welcome to the forum!
Have you looked at the tutorial for the Turkish cast on? What about the line by line instructions in the Appendix? The sts are added in twos. Each wrap around the two needles adds two sts. Is that what you’re doing?
I’ve had this pattern in my favorites just waiting for the right baby (or the right parents) to gift it to.
I have done all those things, multiple times, I just can’t get it to math properly! I’ve been at it for days, I’ve taken a break and will try again tonight, perhaps I am not wrapping it properly.. thanks!
Give it another try. I’ll do the same since I’m interested in eventually working the pattern. Let us know how it goes.
I never was successful with TCO but did use the Figure 8 cast on. I found it easier to count stitches too. As to whether there’s a problem with the pattern, salmonmac has me beat by miles so I’ll leave that part alone. If you’re using a slip knot to start, are you slipping it unworked off the needle? Working it would throw your count off.
I tried the first 4 rounds using the initial directions on page 3 just because they seemed easier to see and follow. It worked with Judy’s magic cast on followed by the Turkish cast on and the stitch count was as given in the pattern. The important thing to remember for me was to hold onto the working yarn and to count one wrap around both needles as 2sts cast on.
The figure 8 cast on looks easy and should work at least for the initial 6sts and maybe later for the additional cast ons. I’ll have to try it. Thanks, GG for this work around!
Ty, I did and was able to see that in 3rd row the knit 2 should be a knit 3 and then it all works out. Also the figure eight cast on was VERY helpful! I’ve made it ro row 37! Yiu all are the best!
Yay, you. You did it!
I’ve had this pattern saved for a long time waiting for the right baby. Please do show us a photo when you finish. We love to see finished projects (and especially these bootees). Congratulations on the granddaughter too!
