Struggling with the wording of this portion of my pattern!

Hi! I’m knitting a hat with ear flaps and I’ve just gotten to the point where I’m marking the part before the brim to indicate where the ear flaps are to be connected. But I can’t for the life of me figure out what this person means. It’s mainly the ‘change to the other needle’ part, I’m working in the round? And surely if I was to repeat what I’ve just done on all my stitches I’d just be putting stitch markers in the same places just a row apart? Do I need to halve my knitting? I’m an advanced beginner and I’m struggling :)) thank you!

I think we’ll need a bit more info. Name of pattern and designer, please? Are you meant to be working on 2 circulars instead of one?

It should work to split your work by putting a distinctive marker at the halfway point. Then knit your 6 or 7 stitches, place a marker, knit to 6 (or 7) stitches before the center marker, place a marker, knit to 6 (7) stitches past the center, place marker, knit to 6 (7) stitches from the end, place last marker. Your earflaps will be between the pairs of markers on either side of center.

Sure! It’s City Hiker Beanie by Milena Pauliina it doesn’t say to work on two circulars, but it does say to change to a 5mm in the round for the brim. I’m also confused as later in the pattern it says to turn your work inside out as I’ll be working on the wrong side for the brim?

Could “change to the other needle” be referring to this being worked using the magic loop method and the pattern writer is indicating that at this point you work to the end of the needle (which is perhaps half a round), then switch your magic loop, then work the rest of the round with the repeat of the marker placement?

Later (brim) thy mention no longer working in magic loop, so earlier this is to be expected.

There are some helpful photos on ravelry of the brim which might help visualise the project.

YES THATS IT!! thank you!!!

Glad to hear that’s solved the problem. It seems the direction is unnecessarily detailed which inadvertently caused confusion.
Enjoy the rest of the project, maybe you’ll post a pic when youre finished.

Yes, you’ll be working on the inside of the brim, but when you fold it up, the right side will be what’s showing.
