Struggling to start a new pattern

Please help! I’m trying to figure out how to start this pattern. I’ve cast on 94 stitches but if I’m following chart A on row one, that means I’m starting with a M1L. What am I missing?

I’ve gotten to here on:

How do I work chart D if I’m back at the beginning of the row and we’re not knitting in the round? So confused! Any help it’s really appreciated.

What is the name and designer of your pattern, and which size are you making? This information will help us help you!

I’m not surprised youre confused. I just read and re-read this many times and it makes no sense to me at all.
Which size are you making? It would help someone help you. The cast on of 94 could be XL or 2XL (5th or 6th size). Looks like chart A begins on row 3 for these sizes (rather than row 1) but even so your questions remain about how to begin with a M1 and how to work chart D when not joined in the round.
In addition to your questions I am not convinced the left/right front/back make sense. Working the WS of the right sleeve would work towards centre front but the pattern indicates it leads to back (or maybe RS/WS are mislabelled? ). Confusing.

I’m sure you’ll be able to get help here.

Welcome to the forum!
As ColoCro and Creations posted we would like to know the name of the pattern and designer as well as the size you are making.
It looks like the pattern leaves a lot for you to figure out from the charts. It may help with stitch number to mark the rows that you are starting on in the charts and of course to place markers at the divisions between charts (and cardigan parts) with a different marker for the BOR.
The cardigan begins with short rows. They would look like this:

It does seem that left and right sleeves are reversed in the pattern and you start with the left sleeve (chart A), work one stitch from D then turn and work back to D just after the right sleeve (chart A).
At some point after the short row there should be a direction to join in the round and include chart C and the steek sts. (I’ve drawn an oval but the sts are apparantly not joined in the round yet.)

Thank you everyone for the quick response! I am making an XL and the pattern is the Williamsburg Classic Cardigan, cabled cardigan - # 393185 by Svarta Faret

Gorgeous cardigan! Does it make sense now or are you still unsure?
Highlighter tape, sticky notes or some way of keeping track of where you are in the different charts will help since charts A and B start at different row numbers.
Once you finish the short rows, you’ll follow the directions to join in the round incorporating chart C for the front with its steek sts.

I saw that they say they can’t respond to messages on ravelry but the Web page has a contact email

I sent a message asking about the sleeve left/right and if there is an error, although I did not translate from English so I don’t know if there will be a response.

Thank you!

I’m still unsure. Thinking there must be an error in the pattern somewhere.

Mark off the sections, raglans, sleeves, backs and front before you begin knitting. You can count the sts on the graph to figure out how many in each section. It would have been easier if the designer had given these numbers for the various sizes but she didn’t.

I just realized that the drawing I posted is wrong. I do apologize for adding to the confusion. It’s top down so it should look like this:

The left and right sleeve designations in the pattern are correct. Start at the BOR and work the short rows beginning with the right sleeve and chart A.
Sorry for the brain freeze there and I hope this helps. There are no errors or corrections noted from the projects on the Ravelry pages.

This is soooooo helpful!! Thank you so much!

Any suggestions for starting at BOR with chart A (M1L)?

@salmonmac I had the same realisation regarding top down left/right after I went to bed last night! It is crazy what pops in one’s head before sleep!

I think that the knitter’s brain is always working in the background. Amazing.

You could work an e wrap in place of the M1L on this row since it’s not always easy to pick up a strand from the cast on.

This works between sts as well as at end of row and since it’s a single stitch it doesn’t have the problems of stretching.

Update on response from designer. They were quick to reply but the answer wasn’t too helpful. “The right and left sleeves are worked exactly the same way”
Oh well.
