What is the best way to stretch a heavy wool sweater? Or, should I take out the back and rework on larger needles and hope that I have enough wool to complete the back and arms.
How much too small is it? If it’s only an inch or so, that might work. You can wet it and pin it out to the size you want and see if that works. If it’s several inches it probably won’t stretch that far. Another thing to try is knitting the next smaller size on larger needles; that uses less yarn.
It probably should be almost as large as possible since it is an outdoor sweater with heavy wool. I’m thinking I’ll take the back out and use even larger needles – the pattern calls for sz 7 and I used 8s, but 9s on the front so I’ll rework the back with 9s, I guess and then block as much as I dare. Thank you for your reply and help.
Oh certainly, if you used 9s on the front, using them for the back will match it and get a little larger size.
I agree. Just curious though why you used such a different size needle for the back and fronts?
