I am new to knitting and decided to attempt a chevron baby blanket for my soon to be niece or nephew however all the patterns that I have found have a zig zag edge. Is there a way to do a straight edge?! Please help!!!

This isn’t a blanket pattern but it is a ripple stitch pattern worked with purl stitches. You could practice it to see how it works for you and then use the practice piece as a gauge swatch to determine how many repeats you’d want for the width of your blanket. I think it would make a very nice baby blanket.
ETA: Oops! You were looking for chevron patterns, I’ve learned to call them ripples, they’re the same thing, you might even find them call zig zags. Whatever name you use, it’s a pretty pattern, good for boys or girls. Enjoy!

It’s possible that adding a deeper border at the cast on and before the cast off (and you may want to then add a border on the sides) will decrease the wave at the top and bottom edges. There are several pages on Ravelry (free to join) but here are some that seem to have a fairly straight edge.

I agree. I’ve crocheted ripple afghans and always love the way the V’s form. Not everyone likes that though. Some people like their edges straight. I know I’ve seen these patterns for knitting that have the straight edges because when I first went looking at them it seemed they were all I could find. Where’d they go? LOL
