As I sit here working on a sock, I am pondering the number of stitches there are in the average sock…a quick calculation worked it up to be 14,400 (my gauge is pretty small). Did I do the math right?
Hmmm. The equation would be (number of stitches per round x number of rounds for the cuff) + (number of stitches per row x number of rows for the heel flap) + (number of stitches per round x number of rounds for the foot) then there is the figuring out the toe stitches and the stitches for the heel gusset since the toe stitches decrease by four (usually) every other round and the gusset decreases by two (usually) every other round until you get to a certain point. I’ll have to sit and think of the equation for those rounds - it involves algebra LOL!
To get a rough estimate I did this: (row gauge x inch length of sock) x cast on amount. I didn’t want to over think it too much
I figured it out for my husband on his massive socks.
Sigh… he wants me to knit him another pair for Christmas this year! :whoosh:
