*HELP!!!
I’m still struggling to get my head around a pattern. It’s a lace edged cardigan with stocking *stitch throughout. I have attached pics of the pattern with circled parts I’m stuck on. I just can’t get my head around the ‘work 13 rows’ and ‘work 16 rows’…
When the pattern says “work 6 rows”, “work 13 rows” or “work 16rows” keep repeating rows 1-6 of the pattern stitch. Keep track of the number of rows worked and the pattern stitch row since the repeat of rows 1-6 should continue throughout.
For work 6 rows, the “Next row” (the one with the K6, K2tog repeat times 3) is a row 1, then continue with rows 2-6, a repeat of 1-6 and row 1 & 2. The following “Next row” will be a row 3.
The best way to approach this is to look at the lace pattern edge and make sure that you are continuing that lace pattern.
I’m still confused. When I read what you’ve explained the maths just isn’t adding up for me

What math are you doing? Adding up rows or something else?

Have you started to knit yet?
I think one of the difficulties could be that you’re trying to write it all out, which kind of sounds like it makes it easier but I think if you just started, then by the time you reached sections such as workm13 or work16 you will have already done the lace pattern repeat of 6 rows quite a few times so you will start to get into the swing of it.
And then the 13 or 16 or the instruction around button hole or shaping raglan will probably make more sense because you will be able to see where you are up to in the 6 row lace pattern.
The 13 and 16 are not intended to be the full 6 row lace repeat.
Maths wise…
going from the part right after “work 6 rows”
Next row (row 1 of lace)
The work 13 (row 2 and continues lace)
Next row (lace continues)
The work 16 (lace pattern and continues)
Cast 2 sts at beg of next row (this is another row of lace)
Shape raglan
1st row
2nd row
Rep 1st and 2nd rows (2 rows of lace)
these together add up to 36 which is 6 full lace repeats
The instruction then says
“5th row (button hole)”
Although this says 5th row you will be starting a new round of 6 on your lace pattern so its the lace 1 but with amendments for the button hole.
I really think the pattern will become more clear as you get to each part rather than trying to understand every row before you get there.
Maybe just take the plunge?
