Hi,
I’m knitting a baby cardigan in Cascade 220 sport and I’m using a steek for the first time. I meant to only have a five stitch steek but i wound up with six by accident. I’m planning on using a crocheted steek but the instructions online all seem to be for a steek with odd numbers.
How do I do the steek with six stitches?
thanks,
Leigh-Anne
I don’t know enough about steeks, but I know others do. Not sure Ingrid is still around, but will tag her, too.

I don’t see why you can’t cut in between the 6 stitch steek. That should work just as well as an odd numbered steek.
Can you give us the name of the pattern or a link to it?
The pattern I’m using is the Ella Funt pattern but I added a steek.
The instructions for cutting my steek I was looking at are by Kate Davies on her [website]. (https://katedaviesdesigns.com/2012/04/29/steeks-2-reinforcing-and-cutting/) She use five stitches and although it might seem obvious to more experienced knitters it made me unsure of how to proceed with my six stitch steek.
Very cute pattern. I haven’t done a crocheted steek. I’ve always stitched on each side of the cur either by hand or by machine and then cut the opening. I suppose you could knit a test swatch and work the crocheted steek over 6 sts to see if it will work before you cut your knitting.
I would consider doing a stitched steek rather than a crochet one. Do you typically sew yours by hand or by machine?
I’ve done both. Now I don’t have a machine so I just sew by hand. I stitch up and down a couple of times to make sure I’m catching all the sts. I’ve also seen videos using a machine with a long zig zag stitch to work this.
