Starting a row with SL3 WYIF?

This is for a two-color brioche stitch scarf. I have done one color brioche in past and am comfortable with that.
I am confused because pattern has me starting and ending some rows with SL3 WYIF. I don’t think I’m doing WYIF correctly between each stitch because my WYIF yarn isn’t staying between each stitch (so I have a tail appearing 3 stitches in).

Pattern says:

  1. Cast on 224 stitches.

  2. Set up row: Slide stitches to end of needle. With complementary color, sl3 wyif, yo, s1, p1; rep from * last 3 sts, sl3 wyif.

  3. Row 1: with master color, k3, *yo, s1, p1tog with yo from prev row; rep from * to last 3 sts; k3. Do not turn.

  4. Row 2: slide work to other end of needle. With cc, k3, *k1tog with yo from prev row, yo sl1, rep from * to last 3 sts, k3. Turn

  5. Row 3: with MC, sl3 wyif, *wyib k1 tog with yo from prev row, yo, sl1; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl3 wyif. Do not turn.

  6. Row 4 Slide work to other end of needle. With cc, sl4 wyif, *p1 tog with yo from prev row, yo, sl1; rep from * to last 4 sts, (count yo and st it overlaps as 1), p1 tog with yo from prev frow, sl3 wyif.

Repeat rows 1-4.

So again, my question is about the sl3 wyif starts and ends to certain rows. Is my yarn supposed to stay between each slip stitch? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Welcome!
Here’s a video for slipping sts wyif just to make sure that’s correct. The sts are slipped with the yarn held to the front for all three sts, not moved between sts until all 3 have been slipped. The video shows slip 2 but the idea is the same for slip 3.

(You can turn down the sound as this video seems to have no words to go along with it.)

This pattern is a little awkward, especially because of the following yo in some of the rows. You’ll just have to be sure to pick up the yarn over from the previous row to purl or knit it with the next stitch.

Thanks so much – really appreciate the video link as a visual reference!
