St st and Rev St st

HI! I am very new to knitting, only learned about a month ago but I love it. Anyways I’ve already figured out how to do the basics but I have a question about the stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch. I understand that one side is the stockinette stitch and if you turn it over it’s reverse stockinette stitch BUT what if you want the stockinette stitch and reverse stockinette stitch to show on the same side is like wide bands.

Would I just do knit stitch purl stitch etc for a few rows and then switch and do purl stitch then knit stitch for a few rows and go back and forth?

I really hope that made sense to someone haha!

Thanks in advance!!

Yep when knitting flat, plain stocking stitch is k a row, p a row, k, p, k, p, etc.

To switch over, when you are on the knit side, start putting purl stitches there so do something like k, p, k, p,p, k, p, k, etc.

Or you could do 2 knit rows together instead of 2 p rows.
